From the beginning
Oliver was born in Santa Cruz, California. The memorial story describes him making skits, music, and drawings as early as 5 years old, while spending years racing BMX, cyclocross, cross-country, mountain biking, downhill, and freestyle dirt jumping.
Teenage years
As a teenager, Oliver DJed and performed under the name Kryph, opening for larger dance acts and learning how to turn a room into a scene. That collision of music, costume, character, and spectacle stayed with him.
R&S, San Francisco, CalArts
At 17 he signed with R&S Records as "Tree" and released the project "Splitting Branches." He attended San Francisco State University and later graduated from CalArts in 2017, where the Oliver Tree project grew around producing, directing, acting, touring, filmmaking, and songwriting.
2016 and after
In 2016, Turbo arrived as a giant-scooter internet character and Oliver released "When I'm Down" with Whethan. The song went gold. In 2017 he signed with Atlantic Records, and "Alien Boy" became a viral hit that crystallized the Oliver Tree universe.
Rio de Janeiro, 2026
The official memorial post says Oliver passed away in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at age 32, after performing in Sao Paulo as part of his 7-continent world tour. The foundation carries forward the most Oliver idea possible: art money should become more art.
Music, video, character, collision
His official site centers the album Love You Madly Hate You Badly and a catalog of songs and videos that move between sincerity, absurdity, heartbreak, and visual stunts.
The early project already had the collision: handmade songs, strange texture, and a kid building a world.
